Louise Mirrer
President and CEO

Louise Mirrer, President and CEO of the New-York Historical Society, Ph.D., started her position at the New-York Historical Society in June 2004. Before then, she was Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at The City University of New York. Dr. Mirrer holds a double Ph.D. in Spanish and Humanities and an M.A. in Spanish from Stanford University. She holds the Diploma in Linguistics from Cambridge University (England). Her baccalaureate is from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated magna cum laude with honors in Spanish.

Jean Ashton
Executive Vice President and Director of the Library

Jean Ashton, Executive Vice President and Director of the Library, holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Columbia University. She joined the New-York Historical Society in 1984, left in 1993 and returned as Library Director in 2006.

Maurita Baldock
Curator of Manuscripts and Institutional Archivist

Maurita Baldock, Curator of Manuscripts and Institutional Archivist, holds an M.A. in History along with a Certificate in Archival Management from New York University, as well as an M.L.I.S. from the Pratt Institute. She has worked at the New-York Historical Society since 2000.

Reference Librarian

Joseph Ditta, Reference Librarian, holds an M.L.I.S. from the Pratt Institute. He is the author of Then & Now: Gravesend, Brooklyn (Arcadia Publishing, 2009).

Marilyn S. Kushner
Curator and Head, Department of Prints, Photographs and Architectural Collections

Marilyn S. Kushner, Curator and Head, Department of Prints, Photographs and Architectural Collections, holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Northwestern University. Previously she has worked at the Whitney Museum as a Research Assistant, the Montclair Art Museum where she was Curator of Collections, and the Brooklyn Museum where she was Chair of the Department of Prints, Drawings and Photographs. Kushner has been at the New-York Historical Society since 2006.

Yael Merkin

Yael Merkin, a former Researcher at the New-York Historical Society, is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in American History at Harvard University. She joined the Historical Society after writing her honors thesis at Columbia University on the Staten Island Quarantine Riots of 1858.

Nina Nazionale
Director of Library Operations

Nina Nazionale, Director of Library Operations, has worked at the New-York Historical Society since 1999. She holds an M.L.S. from Queens College, City University of New York, and a B.A. in Art History from Swarthmore College.

Edward F. O’Reilly
Manuscript Reference Librarian

Edward F. O’Reilly, Manuscript Reference Librarian, has an M.A. in Irish Studies from the National University of Ireland, Galway and an M.L.S. from the Palmer School, Long Island University. He has worked at the New-York Historical Society since 2004.

Henry Raine
Director of Digital Programs and Library Technical Services

Henry Raine, Director of Digital Programs and Library Technical Services, holds an M.L.S. from the Catholic University of America, and an M.A. in the History of Decorative Arts and Design from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. He has been at the Historical Society since 1997.

Eric Robinson
Reference Librarian

Eric Robinson, a graduate of Haverford College, joined the New-York Historical Society Library reference team in 2000.
