Let our Museum staff help you create a meaningful and memorable birthday for your child! Hosting a birthday party at DiMenna Children’s History Museum is a perk for Members of the New-York Historical Society at the Family Level ($160) or higher. Become a Member.
CLASSIC BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Have a blast at our classic History Detectives party—or customize your birthday experience with a Featured History Party ! All listed prices are for parties of up to 12 child guests (including the birthday child) and include planning and party staff, paper goods, balloons, birthday poster, goodie bags, pizza, juice boxes, bottled water, and cake. Each additional child guest (up to 25 maximum) is $35. Adult guests receive free Museum Admission and are welcome to join the celebration or enjoy the Museum galleries during the party.
Birthday parties are designed for kids ages 4 and up and are offered on Saturdays and Sundays during Museum hours, subject to availability. An additional $200 fee will apply to parties booked less than two weeks in advance.
Option 1: History Detective Party
Calling all history detectives! At our classic History Detective parties, kids search for facts, images, and objects in the Museum on a fun, unique scavenger hunt. Partygoers also make a history craft and enjoy pizza and cake in a private celebration space.
90 minutes: $950, ages 6–8
Two hours: $1150, ages 9–12
Option 2: Featured History Party
Customize your party with one of four history themes! Our featured parties bring history to life with historical character actors, who don historical costumes and entertain and inspire kids through storytelling, games, and more. Partygoers also make a history-themed craft, go on a scavenger hunt, and enjoy pizza and cake in a private celebration space.
90 minutes: $1550, ages 4–8
Two hours: $1750, ages 9–12

- Holiday Express: All Aboard to Richard Scarry’s Busytown
(Available for a limited time: November 1, 2019 – February 23, 2020)
All aboard! Celebrate our special Richard Scarry-themed edition of Holiday Express and join Conductor Abe for tall train tales, Busytown-inspired crafts, and a scavenger hunt through the exhibition! (Ideal for ages 4–6)
- Presidential Party with Washington
The year is 1789, George Washington is president, and New-York is the capital of the newly formed United States of America! President Washington regales partygoers with stories about his battles, his election to the new executive office, and his beloved wife and farm. (Ideal for kids ages 4–12)
- Celebrate with Colonial Cornelia
What was it like to be a New York kid during colonial times? Just ask Cornelia van Varick, who was eight years old in 1700! Cornelia brings some of her favorite toys to share with partygoers and teach them important historical skills, like how to cross-stitch. (Ideal for ages 6–12)
- Pirates in the Harbor
Arrghh! It’s 1606 and New York harbor is full of pirate ships! Partygoers join Captain William Kidd’s first mate for a bit of pirate training before heading off on a treasure hunt throughout DiMenna Children’s History Museum! (Ideal for ages 4–8)
- Around the World with Nellie Bly
America’s inspirational star reporter takes partygoers on a trip around the world! Combining interactive storytelling and an exuberant sense of adventure, Nellie Bly shares moments from her famous 1889 trip. Wait until you see the size of her suitcase! (Ideal for ages 4–12)
